Central Park
Central Park has been the site for many different things throughout the early years of Rushville. In 1829, it was chosen as the area on which to build the second courthouse of Rushville, which was completed in 1831. In 1881, fifty years after the courthouse was placed in Central Park, it was destroyed by fire. A new location was chosen for the next courthouse. In its place, an ornate fountain was installed. This fountain held goldfish and, according to one account, held an alligator, which was kept inside during the winter months. In 1905, the fountain was removed. It was decided that a sidewalk would connect to the other sidewalks and create a direct path across the center of the park. Today, Central Park is a great area for community events. Each year, a variety of events take place. Some annual events include Ag Day in the Spring, Corn Fest in July, and Smile's Day in September. The annual lighting of the square for Christmas time takes place in the Bandstand. Throughout the spring, summer, and fall, the farmer's market sets up stands around the southwest corner of the square.
